The Supra has a long history and with the newest release finally announced, it is nice to see where the amazing features that are going to be released in 2020 are coming from. With each release, there is plenty of anticipation and the new 2020 GR Supra is certainly following the same hype. A few models, with their corresponding differing prices, are ready to blow you away. First, it will be nice to know how the Supra got to be what it has become. Read more about the Toyota models leading up to the new 2020 GR Supra, and contact our dealership with any questions. What is the timeline of the Supra?A40: The story of the Supra goes back as far as 1978. The first was the Celica, which hosts a design that can still stop you in your tracks. The timeless style was for sure to create a line that would be a favorite for decades to come. It was officially the Toyota Celica Supra A40 and came to be from the Celica Liftback. The chassis was then lifted and a 6-cylinder advanced inline engine found its way under the hood. The effort put into creating a comfortable, yet powerful car was obvious from the start. The 1978 Celica has 116 horsepower and went from zero to sixty in 10.2 seconds. Seeing these numbers now do not blow anyone away, but at the time, it was the sign of a true tourer. This model ran from 1978 until 1981. A60: The A60 came next and its iconic headlights might be what stand out most with this one. It ran from 1982 to 1985 and held all of the style you can image of the proper 80s aesthetic. There was an L-type and P-type to choose from, but both had engaging lines in the design that made head turns all of the time. The P-type specifically was the starting ground for picking up the performance standards. The zero to sixty time was lowered to 8.4 seconds and featured 161 horsepower. A70: In 1986 the A70 made its debut. The showstopper when this third generation was released was its turbocharged engine. Technological advances were obvious in the improvements that the A70 brought with it. Horsepower was raised to 232 and it could manage zero to sixty in 6.4 seconds. It sported a 3 liter 7M - GTE engine. In addition, the air induction was variable, which enhanced power and the dampers were electronically adjustable. This model ran until 1993. A80: The aesthetics really took a turn forward with the next model, the A80. It was a piece of art that screamed sports car from whichever direction you looked at it. It was timeless, yet featured modern lines. The technology that was exciting in the last model was only continued in this one as well. There was a 3 liter 2JZ - GTE that impressed everyone who got behind the wheel. The zero to sixty made it to 4.6 seconds and it featured 320 horsepower. The most memorable aspect of the A80 was definitely the style though, which can easily be classified as legendary. What is to Come with the New 2020 GR Supra? With all of the history behind such a storied history, the new 2020 GR Supra is for sure to meet expectations. By numbers, it is going to host 335 horsepower and have a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The zero to sixty with this one will be a powerful 4.1 seconds and the top speed is an impressed 155 miles per hour. The vehicle itself is going to be 3,397 pounds and will be powered by 365 lb-ft of torque. The 3 liter twin-scroll inline six engine is turbocharged and will be ready to deliver with impressive responsiveness, for whatever handling necessities you throw its way. The perfect 50 - 50 weight distribution was possible because the engine is as low and as far back as possible, meaning that you will be able to take the new Supra wherever you want with the precision to match. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are icing on the car, keeping you right where you want to be throughout whatever venture you go out on. Where can I learn more about the New 2020 GR Supra?
